BSNL 3G is now Available in your City

BSNL ( Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) launched its much awaited 3G services in India. Tamil Nadu chief minister marked the formal nation-wide launch by making the first video call to union communication and IT Minister.

Mr. Raja spoke about the new developments: “Considering the need for faster penetration of 3G, and the need for telecom access to rural areas, the Government policy will allow telecom infrastructure sharing between commercial telcos as well as infrastructure providers.”
BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal spoke about the launch of 3G services on their network: “Besides upgrading mobile data speeds to 2 mbps from the present 144 kbps, we will also offer video screening of calls, video on demand, mobile surveillance, Live TV, movie downloads etc on our 3G platform.”

Blogger/Blogspot is being most popular blogging platform as Wordpress. Since the new feature of custom domain introduced in blogger, many of blogger shifted their domain to professional domain name like myblog.com rather than myblog.blogspot.com.
You have a .com domain ? You want to redirect your domain to your Blogger Blog ? Here is Blogger Help page for you. Do the required settings to Redirect your domain name.
What about naked domain ?
Yes, you can Redirect/Forward your naked domain purchased from Yahoo Small Business/ Yahoo Domain. For newbies here is the simple Definition of Naked Domains.
What is Naked domains : In a simple words, a URL without www is Naked URL or Naked Domain. If your complete domain name is http://www.yourdomain.com then http://yourdomain.com is naked domain. Usually Reader of your blog choose to type only domain name of your blog rather than adding www prior to your domain name. But unfortunately Blogger by default doesn’t allow this. You may get error “Blogs may not be hosted at naked domains“. Its annoying specially while typing long URL name like http://www.mybeautifullbloggertemplatessite.com In our Previous post we describe the step by step method to Forward Naked Domain to Blogger from Godaddy. Now here is the little hack to Forward Naked Domain to Blogger from Yahoo (purchased from yahoo domain/yahoo small business). Lets Start.

Here I assume that you already did all the required settings explained in Blogger Help mentioned here & here. If not, do that first and then follow the below steps to redirect naked domain. Lets Start.

1. Login to your Yahoo Small Business Account
2. Go to “Domain Control Panel”
3. Click “Manage Advanced DNS Settings”
4. Now here you have add 4 new A records, if you see one A record already existing something like below
A Record – yourdomain.com – Yahoo Server
Edit this record and Make it like below
A Record – yourdomain.com – 216.239.32.21
(Click Edit, Leave the source Field Blank, type the IP address written above)
Click Submit, You will be back to previous page.
5. Now Click On “Add record” New page will appear >> leave the source field blank & type 216.239.34.21 in destination. Click submit
6. Repeat step 5 again & type 216.239.36.21 in destination field. Click submit.
7. Finally, Once more repeat the step5 & type 216.239.38.21 in destination field. Click submit.

Done. If everything goes well, you will find something like this (See Screenshot below). You just added 4 A records in your DNS settings and voila. You are Done. Applying this hack will redirect your naked domain to your Blogger Blog.  
Do Note that If Google changes the server IPs in future, you have to edit/change the Destination Servers manually in above settings. Do visit this post again for updates, as I am using the same configuration. As they say “ I always CAPITAL”, I hope you noticed that CAPITAL “I” in previous sentence.

Blogger is most popular blogging platform, and since the new feature of custom domain appears in Blogger, Almost every blogspot Blogger wants to make their site name more attractive (myblog.com rather than myblog.blogspot.com). In our previous post we explained how to forward/redirect naked domain from Yahoo Small Business to Blogger account. Most of people use to buy domain from Yahoo because of its cheap rates, another daddy in market is Godaddy. If you are using custom domain in Blogger and you bought domain from Godaddy, By default Godaddy wont forward your naked domain (without www) to your blogger account. You need to type www compulsory before your domain name, otherwise you will get an 404-page not found or Godaddy default page full of ads and links.
What is Naked domains : In a simple words, a URL without www is Naked URL or Naked Domain. If your complete domain name is http://www.yourdomain.com then http://yourdomain.com is naked domain.

Too much explanation, Now lets start the solution to forward naked domain from Godaddy to Blogger.
If you just purchased the domain and you did nothing in blogger or Godaddy settings then First of all go to this Blogger help page and do all the settings explained, Update your Blogger Settings explained here, then apply the below mentioned steps to fix the naked domain issue.

1. Log into GoDaddy and Click Domain Manager
2. Click on the domain name that you want to forward to your blog.
3. Find "Total DNS Control and MX Records" link and click it.
4. Find “A (Host)” and Click on the pencil icon (right side of the page) to edit A record.
6. Enter “@” in Host Name Field & “64.202.189.170” in Points to IP Address field, leave the TTL at 1 hour.
7. Click OK, you are almost Done.

It will take 24 hours or maximum time to activate, so Wait for few hours to see the effect. Generally it will be done within few hours only.

Yahoo Announces New Model of Search

Yahoo wants to kill the ten blue links. The company thinks its customers don’t care about the how many pages a search engine indexes — nor do they want to search. They want answers.
At least, that’s what Prabhakar Raghavan, who heads Yahoo Labs and Yahoo Search Strategy told a group of reporters Tuesday at a briefing about Yahoo’s future in search..
The idea is to take the insights the company figured out from mobile devices — which is about answers, not document retrieval — and taking that to web search.
Yahoo says it wants to pull out information from webpages, so that its index knows when a page is about a thing — a museum, a person, a restaurant. That let’s the engine know what kind of food a place serves, what its hours are, and how to return an answer that isn’t just a link.
That’s a fine vision — one that search engine engineers have been dreaming of for years, but it’s not simple to move from a mess of HTML pages to a organized library of the internet.
The company is also taking steps to figure out the “about-ness” of a query. For instance, Yahoo is testing a search where a user can search images for “Paris” and get suggestions to see related images, such as Notre Dame or Eiffel Tower. But that’s not particularly groundbreaking: Ask.com did related-category searches more than two years ago

Till the time of writing this article, i found alpha registration page with selective phones only.  Like Android G1, Android G2, HTC Touch, Iphone, Tilt, Mogul, HTC Dash, Wing, Samsung BlackJack II, Motorola Q9, Nokia E71. I wonder why Nokia N95 or N96 not included. MS Office 2010 Features Windows 7 Taskbar Integration

Microsoft is due to release a Technical Preview of Office 2010 to trusted partners and lucky registered testers in July, but in what's become a pretty common pattern, Bit Torrent-savvy browsers are already seeing leaked builds.

Ars Technica has a full set of Office 2010 Technical Preview screenshots, covering the installation, taskbars, and basic use of every app inside the Office package. What really has us excited, however, is Robert McLaws' screenshot of Windows 7 taskbar integration (partially pictured at right), which shows individual Office apps each getting their own taskbar slot, but also offering new message/appointment/contact/task creation and jump-to shortcuts from each icon. If you're the type to drop bleeding-edge office builds onto your system, note that both 32- and 64-bit builds are apparently out there.

SilverLight Installed More than Firefox, Safari & Chrome Combined - Microsoft

Microsoft’s Silverlight product is most directly a competitor of Adobe Flash. But that’s not who they’re calling out in some data they sent our way today. Instead, the company (or at least their PR firm) is noting that with 300 million installs of Silverlight 2, the platform is installed on more machines around the world than the web browsers Firefox, Safari and Chrome — combined. Damn. Them fightin’ words.

Of course, that also not-so-subtly speaks to Microsoft’s own web browser, Internet Explorer, being by far the biggest in the world — despite falling market share. But it’s a bit odd for Microsoft to call all those other browsers out since Silverlight not only works on all of them, but to some extent needs them, if it’s to survive.

What’s impressive in Silverlight’s big install number is that it’s just for version 2, which was only released about 6 months ago. That was undoubtedly thanks largely to a few huge events that used the Silverlight platform to stream on the web recently: notably, March Madness and President Obama’s Inauguration. And Microsoft is going to need those kind of deals if it’s going to be able to compete with its aforementioned real competitor: Flash, which has something ridiculous like a 99% adoption rate on U.S. web-connected computers.

One of those big partnerships for Silverlight was Major League Baseball’s MLB.com live-streaming service. But back in November, the league announced it would drop Silverlight in favor of Flash. The stated reason was the Flash performs better, though specifics weren’t given. Since that time however, Microsoft has released the beta version of Silverlight 3 and even won an Emmy for the Olympics coverage last summer.

Microsoft estimates that some 300,000 developers and designers are working on the Silverlight platform. But it’s still going to be about big time partnerships in getting people people to use it instead of, or at least along with Flash. I fall into that latter category for that very reason. I have Silverlight on my computer simply to be able to stream Netflix movies. That’s a huge partnership for the platform, and one that isn’t likely to go away considering that Netflix CEO Reed Hastings is on Microsoft’s board of directors.

Microsoft recently revamped its Silverlight blog and is looking for feedback on it.

Select Multiple Lines of Text in Firefox

How to select text lines of your choice in Mozilla Firefox, with the new feature added in Mozilla Firefox one can select Multiple Text without the non required part of text. Suppose you are surfing some website and you a find wonderful article, and you want to copy few of lines or text from that article instead of copying the whole  paragraph. What usually people do is, they copy the whole paragraph in some text editor, and they delete the non required portion of the text manually. What if you will be able to select and copy the exact text of choice in multiple lines. How to do this ?
How to select Multiple Lines of Text in Firefox
Now selecting Text in Firefox is almost similar to known text editors like Microsoft Word.
The trick is to use Ctrl button in your keyboard while selecting.
First Select the portion of text you want, then press & hold Ctrl key to select other piece of non-consecutive text. (See screenshot at right for example) You can select unlimited number of lines (text) of your choice this way.
Results while you Paste :
What happens if you copy multiple text using above method, and you paste it in some text editor like Notepad. You will see something like this (see screenshot).

To Export your blogger blog,
Login to your Blogger account >> Click Settings >> You will find Import and Export link under Basic Tab. >> Click Export. This will export your blog to XML file that you can save to your local hard drive. Your blog will still remain as it is in blogger.
To Import your blogger Blog or to Merge it with another Blog,
Login to your Blogger account (in which you want to import the previously exported blog) >> Click Settings >> You will find Import and Export link under Basic Tab. >> Click Import. >> Choose your previously exported file  (XML) which you saved in your local hard drive, upload it. Done.
By default, all of your imported posts will remain unpublished until you publish them from your dashboard later. However, if you want to post all posts immediately, make sure to check the box next to Automatically publish all imported posts before you click Import Blog. If you did not choose to have your posts publish automatically, you will need to manually publish them from the Posting | Edit Posts tab before they will appear on the web. You can either publish all the posts at once by clicking Publish all imported posts, or publish individual posts by selecting them and then clicking Publish Selected.

IPL SMS Game is no more

The controversial SMS game introduced in the IPL, which evoked strong criticism for promoting gambling, was on Tuesday discontinued with the games’ inventors taking note of the apprehensions expressed by Sports Minister M.S. Gill and many former cricketers.

Although there was no pressure for the game to be withdrawn, the organisers decided to stop it with immediate effect.

“There was no formal complaints about the game but the Sports Ministers’ views were taken into account and the organisers have withdrawn the game,” senior BCCI official and member of the IPL Executive Board Rajiv Shukla said.

Gill had last week denounced the SMS game in which fans made ball by ball predictions for cash prizes, saying it amounted to gambling.
"I see the commercial use of cricket for business gains, that is going on. I am concerned, at knowledgeable comments, from serious followers of cricket about the latest venture of encouraging viewers to make ball by ball predictions of runs scored for economic gain in the shape of cash prizes," Gill had said in a statement.
"This is viewed as 'openly encouraging gambling and betting', which official bodies do not resort to, even in countries where betting is legal; all this 'to make money and enlarge their TV viewership base'," the minister had added.
The game has been widely criticised by cricket experts and the BCCI has been accused of promoting betting through it.
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar had also criticised the game, saying it affected the sanctity of the game.
"I support Mr Gill partially. We should not stoop so low which will affect the sanctity of cricket", he said.
The surprise pull out of the game came only a day after its inventors had strongly defended themselves, insisting it was not promoting betting or gambling.
"It is not a betting game - you cannot make a bet. It can't be match fixed or manipulated. It does not contribute to corruption," said their Managing Partner George Tomeski.
"6UP is a game of (predominate) skill. (Supported by written Indian legal opinion and advice)," he claimed.
